Here in the Pacific Northwest we fish for Blackmouth, otherwise known as Chinook Salmon. These Blackmouth are literally skirting the floor of the waters we fish for them. That means our downrigger balls are dragging or skipping across the bottom.
In order to fish this area you have to modify the downrigger clip, so you can clip into the downrigger cable, not the downrigger ball. Keep in mind we often use flashers (Attractors) and even plugs. If you place your downrigger clip onto the downrigger ball, your flasher or plug will not action properly and you will have a disaster on your hands.
This video explains how I modify my Cannon downrigger clips.
